Colombia promotes sustainable agriculture: the Bio-inputs Summit arrives for the first tim

  • The Summit will bring together national and international experts to analyze how bioinputs can improve soil health, reduce dependence on chemicals and share good practices that are already transforming sustainable agriculture in the region.
  • Furthermore, in the face of the growing environmental and safety demands of international markets, the meeting will offer innovative solutions to strengthen the production and competitiveness of key crops such as coffee, bananas, Hass avocado, red fruits and mango.
Medellín, August 2025. The sixth Bioinputs Summit, led by the Colombian Association of Bioinputs (Asobiocol), will be held on September 10 and 11 at the Caja de Madera in Plaza Mayor Medellín. And, for the first time, it will be part of the programming of Expo Agrofuturo Medellín 2025 (18th edition), the most important agricultural fair for innovation and development in Latin America that is organized by Corferias.

“We decided to include the Bioinputs Summit at Expo Agrofuturo because this space has established itself as a reference scenario for innovation in agriculture. Bioinputs are one of the most relevant trends for the present and future of the sector, and having this meeting within the fair allows us to expand the conversation, attract more actors in the value chain and strengthen the transition towards sustainable and competitive agriculture”, stated Doris Chingaté, project manager at Expo Agrofuturo in Corferias.

Asobiocol, organizer of the Summit, brings together producers, researchers, academics and companies in the bioinputs sector in Colombia, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, encouraging innovation and strengthening the competitiveness of export crops that must respond to increasingly strict international demands in sustainability. and safety.

Carolina Vargas Rodríguez, executive director of Asobiocol, highlighted: “We want to expand the conversation about sustainable agriculture and open new opportunities for the adoption of bioinputs in Colombia and the region. This year we will have an expanded one and a half day format, which will allow us to address everything from technical and scientific topics to regulatory challenges and market trends”.

International speakers and leading experts

The Summit will feature the participation of 19 national and international experts, who will share technical, regulatory and innovation perspectives. Among them, Alan William Viela Pomella (Lallemand, Brazil) stands out; Alan Ramírez and Karla Bujeiro (Bayer, Mexico); Federico Martín Elorza (Chamber of Agricultural Health and Fertilizers – CASAFE, Argentina); Harold Gamboa Morillo (Inter-American Institute of Agricultural Sciences – IICA, Costa Rica); and Leonardo Solórzano, a Colombian based in Canada and linked to Telica Microbials.

Experts will address advances in the use of beneficial fungi to strengthen roots and improve soil health, biological control of microscopic worms that affect productivity, sustainable pest management in coffee and competitive floriculture, among others. In addition, they will share experiences in the implementation of best regulatory practices that can serve as a model for the region.

Another key axis will be the competitiveness of export crops. Today, international markets demand a balance between chemical pesticides and bioinputs to reduce waste and comply with safety standards. Strategic crops such as coffee, bananas, Hass avocado, red fruits, passionflowers, fruit trees and mangoes need to accelerate the adoption of these solutions to maintain their sustainability and competitiveness in global trade.
